So yesterday was the Eurovision song contest! They do it once a year. Every country has a song and then everyone votes for a winner. You can't vote for your own country. It is crazy how fast time goes by, I remember watching last year's contest with Maris. Germany won this year, Norway won last year. Here are a few links to some of my favorites Moldova's song from this year
(slightly naughty)
Maris also liked Turkey, this was the 2nd place song
Estonia didn't make it into the finals, but there is always next year. They won it all back in 2000 or 2001.

Cinco de Mayo!

The 5th of May started out as any other day, lots of school work. I entered a source into my bibliography stating what day I had accessed an online source and it hit me!!! It was Cinco de Mayo!!! How could I have almost forgotten the day to celebrate Mexican culture and history? There aren't any Mexican restaurants here in Tartu so we had to make due with what We had. I whipped out the rolling pin and made some shells just like I used to when I was a missionary. Despite the many years since making them they turned out pretty good. In addition to cheese casadillas we put a cheap no name version of Nutella on them and they were fantastic. We also danced around and listened to wild Latin music. I hope your Cinco de Mayo was as much fun as ours was!

More Student Days!

Today was the last day of Student Days, they saved the best for last! A boat rally! This was the first year I was able to watch, they started a little later this year at 4:oo PM so I was able to go watch it after church. It was pretty funny to see the different kinds of boats people put together. Tartu is such a fun city, there is all kinds of fun stuff that goes on here. The next big thing is probably hansa days during the summer.

Student Days

Life here in Tartu is good, the weather is fantastic. Things aren't green yet, but they will be very soon. This week is Student Days, every day is filled with activities. On Monday night we went to an activity called night singing, Estonians love to sing. I thought there would be some 25-30 students singing with flashlights. I thought it would be ok, but boy was I surprised when about 2,000 students were there in front of a stage with huge speakers, lights a band, it was the real deal! They sang some Beatles's songs and we had a blast. We didn't bring our camera but here is a picture of the event we found online. This picture was probably from another year, I don't think there quite that many people there but almost!
